The name BURCON is a fusion of the Conradie en Burger family names
Die ou kelder (old cellar) as we call it, is the oldest building on the farm approximately 150 years old. It was originally built for winemaking, but during the years it was used for various things like storage facility and for horse tack & feed. When the horses time was over it made room for my grandfather’s narrow wheel John Deere. In 1971 my mother (Amanda) started a Jersey dairy and the “ou kelder” started working once again as a feed storage.

At the beginning of 2004 we decided to start making our own wines. Not to win medals and rewards, nor to impresss the media, just wine made to our taste from our vineyards for the pure enjoyment of it.
You don’t need a Phd. in enology to enjoy and appreciate our tongue-in-cheek wines. Our wine is vineyard specific. All the stories on the labels are true.
Our whole objective was to make an affordable & drinkable wine. A wine that brings friends together and a wine to be enjoyed together.
